Beware of Cuteness

Beware of cuteness…

Cuteness came to me with big brown eyes and a perky tail.

INTRODUCING, MR. POPPY! Shelter dog. He is a small dog but possesses a very loud, fog horn sound that comes from his hound background. He is a survivor, as many shelter animals are.

He happens to be a very cute, year and a half old pup, with lots of energy.

If you are a senior like me, falling for cuteness can be dangerous. Not only does Mr. Poppy possess a loud bark that could annoy my neighbors, he is also strong and came to me untrained for a leash. So, I now find myself owner of a cute, strong dog that nearly pulls me over.

Dogs and cats make wonderful companions and even improve our health. But, take your time finding the right match; this is an important decision.

Ask yourself these questions, how much time and energy are you willing to invest in training; an exercised dog is a happy dog. Do you like to travel? Do you take day trips and long trips? Do you have the financial means to kennel a pet while you are away? And remember vet fees can be expensive.

I’m not trying to discourage anyone from shelter adoption. Shelter pets are loving and eager to please. But, speaking from experience, take your time and don’t be swayed by cuteness.
